The last 3 months have been a whirlwind.
Personally, I’ve grown more as an entrepreneur during Y Combinator than I had in a long time. We were pressed, squeezed, and challenged by some of the smartest people I’ve ever met.
Our vision for Proof has grown 100x bigger than what we could see before. That is exciting and also terrifying. Leaving the comfort zone of “let’s build a cool business” and stepping into “could we build something that would change the internet forever?” is a scary thing. Yet here we are.
Recently, we had YC’s Demo Day. We presented to 900+ investors what we’ve been working on for the last year and what Proof is all about. We crushed it.
While Proof is profitable and in the last 12 months has already grown to twice as big as our nearest competitor (which has been growing for 3+ years), we have plans that can be rapidly accelerated with outside capital and the help of a talented team of investors. Building industry changing tools is not cheap.
Despite our “bootstrapped #4LIFE” mentality, we decided to raise some funding. I’ll share more details on our fundraising after we finish everything up.
Why We’re Moving To Austin, TX
I’ve lived in Annapolis, MD for the last 4 years and it has been amazing. I moved there to be with friends and to learn how to start a business. It’s where JP, Chris, and I met and started our little marketing agency 4 years ago. It’s where Proof began.
As the company grows, we’ve felt we needed to be in a bigger city with large talent pools and other startups much bigger than us. We considered San Fransisco, Nashville, Atlanta, Denver, Washington D.C. and Austin.
Ultimately we decided Austin was where we would headquarter Proof for the next phase of our journey.
There’s an amazing entrepreneurial buzz around the city and combined with being a great place to raise a family, we felt it was the right decision for us. Needless to say, we’re incredibly excited.
We’re all moving there June 1st, and if you’re building your business in Austin I’d love to connect!
