As long as I’ve been an entrepreneur, I’ve felt a strong tension between where I currently am, and where I want to be.
I dream of building a $100 million dollar company, yet I find myself responding to Facebook messages all day. Or I’m caught up in emails.
It’s hard to think of how I’ll be able to reach my long-term goal when I’m so bogged down with tasks that seem minute.
Everything changed for me when I broke up the $100 million dollar vision into four distinct stages.
It became easier to say: “I’m just in stage 1. It’s fine to answer all these emails in stage 1.”
So I changed my framework, and I started thinking of our business as a video game.
Four stages I need to beat in order to win.
Each stage has three tasks I need to complete, in order to advance to the next stage. Or to continue my video game analogy: the next level.
The 4 Stages
- Stage 1: Information Business (LEVEL COMPLETE)
- Stage 2: Software Business (IN PROGRESS)
- Stage 3: Investing
- Stage 4: Influence
Tasks to Beat Each Level
- Task 1: Earn Capital
- Task 2: Learn Skills
- Task 3: Gain Influence

Currently, we’ve completed stage 1 and are working on stage 2 with our company Proof.
